Charlie Brantley, Director


Mr. Brantley attended Appalachian State University in Boone North Carolina where he received his bachelors degree in Music Education in 2008. While at Appalachian, Mr. Brantley participated with the Appalachian Concert and Symphonic Bands, Wind Ensemble, Marching Mountaineers, and Men’s Glee Club. He did his student teaching at St. Stephen’s High School in Hickory North Carolina where he directed the Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Bands. Since graduation he has held the position of Director of Bands at Purnell Swett High School in Pembroke North Carolina. While there, he directed the PSHS Marching Rams, Concert Band, started a Jazz Band program and participated with local community events and theater productions. He has sent numerous students to honors bands at UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Pembroke, University of South Carolina, and UNC-Wilmington, as well as helped students to prepare for college and district level auditions and events. He has acted as a guest conductor,clinician, and marching band staff at various schools throughout North Carolina and enjoys writing and arranging music and marching band drill and being an active church choir member. Mr. Brantley accepted the position of Director of Bands at East Iredell Middle School in October 2011 and served as the band director at EIMS until June 2016 when he accepted the position of Director of Bands at North Iredell High School.

Mr. Brantley’s professional affiliations include: National Association for Music Eduction, North Carolina Music Educators Association, North Carolina Band Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.


Abi Shuford, Music Instructor


Abi is the current band director at East Iredell Middle School, one of the two feeder programs for North Iredell.

Amos McCandless, Visual Instructor

Mr. McCandless is in his second year of teaching and his first year as visual instructor for the North Iredell Marching Raiders. Mr. McCandless has a background in theater and graduated from Davidson in 2014.

Brookelyn Norman, Guard Instructor

Ms. Norman is in her first year as guard instructor at North Iredell High School. She graduated in 2016 from Mooresville High School where she was color guard captain and is currently working towards an associates in Liberal Arts at Mitchell Community College. In addition to color guard she has many years of dance experience and teaches dance at the Lake Norman Dance Gallery. She is also the director of the summer camp at  and teaches pre-school. We are excited to have Ms. Norman join us this fall!
